ISITA was inaugurated in June 1996 and affiliated with EFITA as a full member in the same month. The Constitution of ISITA is modelled on that of EFITA. ISITA membership, which stands at about 110, is drawn from a wide sectoral background: research, education, advisory, universities, agribusiness (commercial, co-operatives, semi-state, consultants, etc.), farmers’ associations, societies, etc. Members are kept in touch with developments through an electronic newsletter, by e-mail and via the ISITA web site. Seminars are organised twice yearly and deal with current ICT developments in agriculture.

The British Association has a membership of 24 from the areas of universities, agricultural services, on-line services for farmers, agricultural publishing, extension and research. The first BAITA meeting is planned for early November 1997 where a future programme will be agreed. BAITA was affiliated to EFITA in June 1996.

For AFIA’s membership of 47, the foundation of EFITA is welcomed as an enhancement of the existing networks, providing opportunities for expanding exchanges and increasing the number of professionals involved.AFIA was founded to assist exchanges between persons of different backgrounds and different concerns. VIAS is an organisation of professionals with a membership of 450 and is linked to the Royal Agricultural Society in Holland. A substantial number of the VIAS membership work within Industry in the SME sector and, although there are strong links with the University, it is not a society of researchers. Many members are active in marketing and sales of IT products or are involved in near-market research and innovation. (more…)
